Max (Patton Oswalt) faces major changes in his life. Her owner (Ellie Kemper) is now married and has a child, Liam. Max cares so much for the protection of the boy that he develops a nervous tic. On a family trip to the country, Max and his friend Duke (Eric Stonestreet) meet petty cows, hostile foxes and a terrifying turkey, which only increases his anxiety. Fortunately, Max is guided by Rooster (Harrison Ford who makes his debut in animation), a veteran farm dog who pushes him to abandon his neuroses, find his inner alpha and give a little more freedom to Liam.
